CAD-L PROJECT

Coordinated Action on Disability in Liberia (CAD-L) project: funded by the Swedish Embassy (SIDA), spans from September 2021 to August 2025 with a mission to coordinate efforts to support persons with disabilities (PWDs) across Liberia, this four (4) years intervention that aims to change systems and institutions in Liberia to include Persons with Disabilities in development processes, acting as advocates and agents of change for an equitable and inclusive society. The Action coordinates the efforts of duty bearers (employers, entrepreneurs, policy makers, the police, among others), right based holders (persons with dis abilities(PWDs ), organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) and of women with disabilities (OWWDs), and the institutions and CSOs representing them, towards improving the economic independence of PWDs through access to socio-economic and sexual reproductive health rights (SRHRs) and to means of communication to advocate for their entitlements.
The primary beneficiaries of the project are persons with disabilities who are being supported to ensure equal access to work and employment opportunities. It is implemented in the counties of Montserrado, Bomi, Bong, Lofa and Nimba Counties by AIFO (program Lead) in partnership with the National Union of Organisations of the Disabled (co-partner) along with other local partners including National Commission on Disabilities, Liberia Labour Congress, DKT Liberia, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labour, Liberia Chambers of Commerce and the International Labour Organisation, ILO.

PAST PROJECTS

VOICE PROJECT

The project titled: “Voices for Inclusion and Civil Society Empowerment” (VOICE),  a two-year innovative project (01/02/2021-31/01/2022) funded by the European Union. The project aims at enhancing the capacity of civil society organisations, to promote and empower persons with disabilities and to ensure that people with disabilities can fully enjoy their rights in Liberia.

In particular, the action aims at enabling the umbrella federation of people with disabilities, the National Union of Organization of the Disabled (NUOD), the Disabled People’s Organisations (DPOs) and their members to effectively demand the respect and fulfilment of the human rights of all People with Disabilities (PWDs), in line with the Convention on Rights of People with Disabilities (CRPD) to which Liberia is a signatory since 2012. The primary beneficiaries of the project are deaf and hard of hearing persons who will be supported to ensure that they have equal access to work and employment opportunities. It is implemented in the counties of Montserrado, Bomi and Nimba, in partnership with Williette Safehouse.

DASU PROJECT

The Disability and Startup (DASU) project: a three-year scheme funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation that started May 2, 2018 and  ended May 1, 2021, with a total cost of US$1.4 million implemented by AIFO that aimed at improving the livelihood of persons living with disabilities in the country.

The DASU project’s overall goal was to contribute strengthening the role of Civil Society Organizations (DPOs) for sustainable and inclusive growth processes in Liberia. The project reinforced the role of People with Disabilities Organizations (DPOs) in the socio-economic development processes and in the fulfilment of People with Disabilities (PWDs) rights. In order to achieve this goal, the project includes different sets of activities, each related to a specific result.
