Tubmanburg, Bomi County
In Bomi County, a visionary leader named Betty Jensen took a stand to uplift her community. Betty, a young woman with physical challenges, stepped up to lead the Bomi Independent Disabled Organization Business Center, a hub focused on soap making and chloride production.
With a modest funding boost of US$3,000 as a startup grant from AIFO Liberia and partners through the CAD-L Project, funded by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), Betty and her team, initially just seven members strong, embarked on a journey of entrepreneurship and empowerment. Through hard work and determination, the organization blossomed, doubling its membership to thirteen. Each week, these remarkable individuals gather, united by their goals, talents, and the shared vision of creating something meaningful.
Though the path isn’t without obstacles, including financial and supply chain challenges, the success of the Bomi Independent Disabled Organization Business Center is undeniable. They have shown that through collaboration, determination, and a commitment to each other’s success, even the most daunting challenges can be overcome. Their story is one of hope, resilience, and empowerment, proving that when a community comes together, incredible things can happen. Betty and her team are not just building a business; they are building a legacy of positive change that will ripple through generations to come.
